In January 2001, I moved from New York City back t

In January 2001, I moved from New York City back to Texas with my husband and my 6 mo old son. I tearfully left my beloved home-away-from-home “kicking and screaming” never wanting to leave NY. We lived steps from the Chrysler building & the city served as endless source of inspiration for my artistic endeavors. But family was here in SA, & at that time, it made more sense to have familial support with a new baby.
Nine mos later, we watched in horror the incidents of 911 on the TV. Those images emblazoned in my mind, & seeing all the places they showed brought back so many memories of my living and working there for six years. I had many times climbed those very elevators for auditions and gigs during my performing years. And I continue to have a multitude of friends who still live in the city to this day. I see them as often as I can. I can vividly recount their harrowing stories of that fateful day and what they experienced.
One of my best friends was scheduled to work in Tower Two that morning - and because of a delay on the subway, she was 10 minutes late. And thus, she never made it up into the Tower. We are forever grateful for her unplanned tardiness.
Ten years later back in San Antonio, I put in an application to work part time for Continental Airlines. I was hired and corporate plans to merge with United Airlines were already underway. Every year at United, we honor the memory of all those who perished during 911.
With this 20 year anniversary, we stand in solidarity and in our hearts with our extended friends and family at American Airlines. And with my many trinkets and official badging I’ve collected over these many, I create my little tribute to those we all hold dear.
Full circle, my son is now 21. He currently is studying to receive an aviation degree, and is quickly on the way to becoming one of our next generation of pilots. A dream to be a pilot since he was 4, now includes the real possibility of working for United.
And If you happen to head to the SAT airport today, you will see me proudly working alongside our very special families. ✈️💙
