What's A Trunk Show?
Everybody wants to know what's in "the bag". A trunk show offers a big bag (maybe two) of goodies that can range from closeout pieces at reduced prices, to one of a kind finds, to sneak peeks at a soon-to-be-released collection. It's also a great time to meet the designer and hear more about how your favorite find came to be. Add a bit of wine and cheese, the backdrop of the boutique or gallery, and a group of eager shoppers looking to indulge, and you have a rockin' trunk show event!
I Love Doing Trunk Shows!
That's where I really get to meet the customers who will wear my jewelry, and I get to learn first hand from them what speaks the most to them. Special occasion holidays are a great time to host a trunk show. Just this morning, I delivered an order to a long-time hotel client whose retail department had been assigned a new director. Almost immediately after making our acquaintences, she asked if I would be interested in doing a trunk show for Mother's Day...absolutely! After a brief discussion, a date was set.
In recent weeks, a number of my out of state boutiques and galleries have already penned dates in their calendars for me to travel and bring my overstuffed bag of samples. As I visit from city to city, the scenery may change, but one thing remains consistent, and that is the overwhelming response from collectors and admirers of my work. Some clients will make several purchases for themselves for pieces that they can't bear to be without. Others will purchase multiples to have a cache to use as gifts for friends and family throughout the year. Either way, the gratification goes both ways from purchaser to artist.
A Benefit for Your Customers
The hosting boutique or gallery also benefits from a trunk show. Their customers love the chance to meet a designer in person and hear the story first hand of that special pair of earrings or the stunning necklace they intend to wear at an upcoming soiree. With a little wine and cheese, a trunk show offers a great opportunity for a party atmosphere, attracting both new and existing customers into the store not only for the headline event but also to browse around the store. Customers often leave with their own bag of goodies into which their friends will want to peek!
